Honda is redefining the word aerodynamics with its 2015 IndyCar aero kit.
In hopes of claiming the manufacturer’s title this season, Honda has pulled out all the stops with a wild set of wings and vents attached to an Indy car. The road course/short oval (“RC/SO”) aero kit is inspired by technology found on Formula 1 vehicles as former Formula 1 chassis designer Nick Wirth and his UK-based Wirth Research helped design the aero kit. According to Honda Performance Development (HPD)’s vice-president, Steve Eriksen, the initial kits will cost a team $75,000 with over 100 pieces included. Teams will have the option to add or remove various of the aerodynamic components, allowing a driver to practice, qualify and race with three different configurations.

There will be an opportunity to see how Honda’s new aero kit will perform when the IndyCar season kicks off on March 29 at 3:00 PM ET.
“I believe the first half of the season, or at least until we get to Indy, teams will be so immersed in what they already have at their fingertips to work with and what they can do with it, that there won’t be a lot of time to go through and see what this Honda team has done compared to other Honda teams, or what the Chevys have done and what the Hondas have done,” said 2014 Indy 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay.
