Following the namesake concept unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon late last year, Suzuki has officially revealed the Alto Turbo RS production car. A sportier version of Suzuki’s recently introduced Alto kei car, the Turbo RS features a turbocharged 0.66-liter three-cylinder engine mated to an Auto Gear Shift (AGS) five-speed transmission equipped with paddle shifters.
Suzuki says the turbo engine “realizes strong acceleration,” but doesn’t provide numbers. The unit features increased low-to-mid speed torque and maximum torque thanks to the adoption of a high-tumble intake port and high-efficiency turbo charger.
Peak torque is 98Nm (58lb-ft) at 3,000 rpm, with the automaker also claiming turbo lag has been reduced by approximately 20 percent. The 2WD version averages 25.6km/L (3.9 l/100 km or 60.2 mpg US) according to Japan’s JC08 cycle, thanks in part to the Engine Auto Stop Start System.
Compared to the standard Suzuki Alto, body rigidity has been increased by 5 percent, due to the fitting of a strut bar and high-rigidity front bumper member, as well as the thickening of the cowl front panel. The car also features specially-tuned suspensions and brakes, as well as sport front seats.
Design-wise, the Suzuki Alto Turbo RS sports a rear tailgate spoiler, front and rear bumper ornaments, black-painted 15-inch aluminum wheels, red accents and Turbo RS decals.
