Ferrari is now focusing on chasing Formula 1 world champion Mercedes rather than defending against Williams and Red Bull, following its strong start to 2015 in the Australian Grand Prix.
Sebastian Vettel scored a podium on his Ferrari debut in Melbourne, while Kimi Raikkonen was on course to finish at least fifth before a problem caused by damage from a cross-threaded wheelnut.
The Scuderia was the second best team on merit in Melbourne, marking an impressive turnaround from last season when it finished behind Red Bull and Williams in fourth in the constructors’ championship.
“Our first target was to look at Williams and Red Bull,” said Ferrari team boss Maurizio Arrivabene in Melbourne.
