CULVER CITY, Calif. — Honda pulled back the cover on a dramatic new design and era in IndyCar racing Monday night.
Just 20 days after rival Chevrolet unveiled its new road-course/short oval aero kit, Honda Performance Development engineers revealed its design — a multi-layered, multi-part addition to the standard Dallara chassis — during a cocktail reception that drew celebrities, Honda execs and IndyCar stars.
“It took a lot of smart people to put all of this together,” 2014 Indianapolis 500 winner Ryan Hunter-Reay told USA TODAY Sports. “I was enthused about it from the get-go because I could be in a position to help build what is a completely different racecar than what we’ve seen in the past.
“The fact that one manufacturer will be distinguishable from another — that Honda will be different than Chevy — I think is a big deal. That’s how it always was when I was growing up, and it’s going to be like that again. Fans will be able to pick the two apart.”
